Hey, there. Thanks for coming in.
Congratulations on taking the plunge and seeking counseling! If you’ve been to therapy before, you know that finding the right fit can be a process. Our first steps in this experience are going to be about getting to know each other.
As we work together, you can expect a friendly, conversational atmosphere in counseling that lets us work as a team on the issues.
I graduated from Adler University in Chicago with a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2024. Getting my clinical degree here allowed me to focus on working with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, a particular passion of mine. I got my start in the mental health field during my undergraduate study in Psychology at the University of Alabama, where I graduated summa cum laude in 2019. (I also studied Spanish Language and Literature there, and continue to learn to this day—feel free to chat with me about it and other languages, as I’m always happy to talk lingüísticas!)
While my therapeutic career is still fresh, I’ve worked in the field since 2017. From humble beginnings as a student research assistant at the University of Alabama, to behavioral testing, to drug/alcohol rehabilitation support, to case management, to domestic violence hotline support, to mental health crisis response, to private practice intern, I’ve been grateful for a variety of experiences—what better way to prepare myself for a variety of clients?
Now, after school, more school, an internship, a host of related jobs, and a couple of fancy tests to prove that I did, in fact pay attention in school, I am finally…under supervision to become a fully licensed therapist!
I currently practice as an Associate Licensed Therapist (ALC). Under the supervision of April McKee, LPC-S at Tree of Life Behavioral Health, I see clients 16 and older at sliding scale rates (ranging from $50-150 per session, depending on household income) and select BCBS of AL plans under Lucet (please call the front office at 256-278-2802 to verify). Teletherapy options are available.
What would you like to talk about today?
I specialize in working with severe mental illnesses (SMI) including Bipolar I and II, PTSD/C-PTSD, psychotic disorders, and severe depression/anxiety characterized by suicidal ideation. With my background in crisis work, you can rest assured: you’re not going to scare me! Regardless of what you come in with, I do everything in my power to keep you in the driver’s seat regarding your mental health decisions.
Like any therapist worth their salt, I use a blend of techniques and therapies.
For most people, a combination of CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and other person-centered modalities ensure we can handle most anything you've got going on.
If you’re looking to process trauma, a treatment plan of either Cognitive Processing Therapy or IFS therapy will be tailored to you. These two methods work diametrically to process trauma, with one focusing on thoughts and one focusing on emotions. Depending on your strengths and your needs, we may find that one is a better fit for you than the other, or that one encourages your growth in a way the other might not. (We might even do both if we’re feeling feisty!)
I have received training in all the therapeutic modalities listed above, and I continue to seek out additional education in order to provide the highest quality of care to my clients.
